One-on-one mixing and mastering coaching

Learn mixing on the one song you actually care about. Yours.

I mix and master your song to release standard, then record a 30–60 minute video walking you through every decision inside it. You keep the finished master, the unlocked session file and vocal presets built for your voice — and, more importantly, the reasoning behind all of it, which is the part that transfers to every song you make next.

Why this exists

Tutorials teach you on someone else’s song.

Which is the whole reason nothing you learn from them survives contact with your own session.

You can follow every step and still be lost.

A tutorial mix is built on a session you didn’t record, in a room you can’t hear, solving problems your track doesn’t have. The steps transfer. The judgement behind them doesn’t.

The missing piece is decisions, not plugins.

Most artists I meet already own capable tools. What’s missing is knowing which move to make, in what order, and — hardest of all — when to stop. Nobody demonstrates that on your material, because nobody has your material.

You’ve never heard your own song finished properly.

Until you do, you have nothing to measure your mixes against. You’re aiming at records made by other people, in other rooms, with other voices. That’s an unfair reference and it keeps you stuck.

How it works

You send one song. It comes back finished — and explained.

This is a real mix job with the workings left in. Nothing about the record is treated as a teaching exercise: it’s mixed and mastered to the same standard as any paying client’s release.

01

Send your song

Stems or your full session, however you have it. Not sure how to export? I send a one-page prep guide the moment you book.

~30 minutes of your time

02

I mix and master it

I do the work myself, in my Los Angeles studio, through the same analog chain and monitoring I use on major-label records. No assistant, never farmed out.

5–7 business days

03

We get it exactly right

Revisions are unlimited on this package. I don’t move on until it’s the mix you heard in your head when you wrote the song.

I record the breakdown

A 30–60 minute screen recording of your finished session explaining every choice — then the session file and your presets are handed over.

What’s included

Six things arrive. Four of them you keep forever.

This isn’t a mix with a bonus video bolted on. Each piece is here because the others don’t work without it — the master proves the standard, the video explains it, the session and presets let you reproduce it.

01 — The record

A finished, release-ready master

Your song mixed and mastered by a Billboard-charting engineer, delivered as a WAV and Apple Digital Masters certified for streaming. Release it the day it lands.

02 — The standard

Unlimited revision rounds

The only package I offer with no revision limit. We go back and forth as many times as it takes, at no extra charge and with no awkward conversation about it.

03 — The teaching

A 30–60 minute personal video breakdown

Not a generic tutorial. A screen recording of your session: why that compressor, why that cut at 340Hz, what I heard in your vocal and what I did about it, in order, start to master.

04 — Yours to keep

The fully unlocked session file

Pro Tools, Logic or Studio One — whichever you use. Every track, plugin, send and routing decision visible and editable. Open it, take it apart, steal every setting.

05 — Yours to keep

Custom vocal chain presets

Vocal and bus presets dialled in for your voice, your microphone and your DAW — not generic starting points. Load them on the next song you record and you’re already close.

06 — Your call

Your plugins, or mine

My full collection gives the best possible result — it’s what I use daily. But send me your plugin list and I’ll build the session entirely from what you own, so you can actually open and use it.

This is a five-minute excerpt from a walkthrough — same format, same depth, just shorter. Yours runs 30–60 minutes and is recorded on your song, not this one.

Fit

Who this is for — and who it isn’t.

I’d rather talk you out of it than take $697 from someone it won’t help.

This is for you if…

  • You’re writing and recording finished songs already, and the production is there — the mix is what’s holding it back.
  • You’ve watched the tutorials and bought a course, and still can’t apply any of it to your own session.
  • You want a release you can put out and the ability to get closer on your own next time.
  • You mix your own material and want a professional reference point built from your voice and your room.
  • You’re planning more than one release, so what you learn here gets used repeatedly.

This isn’t the right fit if…

  • You just want the song mixed and don’t care how it was done — the standard mixing and mastering service is the same quality for less.
  • You haven’t finished a song yet. Come back when you have one you’re proud of; the coaching lands much harder.
  • You’re looking for a live course, a cohort or weekly calls. This is built around one song, asynchronously.
  • You want someone to teach you a genre you don’t make. I teach through the record in front of us.

Optional add-on

Want to ask questions live? Add a 1-on-1 Zoom call.

The video breakdown is one-way by design — you can rewatch it forever. But if you’d rather sit with me and go through your session, your questions, or the next song you’re working on, add an hour on Zoom. Most people book it after they’ve watched the breakdown, so the questions are sharper.

What artists say

Two people who did exactly this.

“As an independent artist, I usually have trust issues when it comes to engineers mixing my vocals from scratch, but he nailed it perfectly on the first try. Knowing what I know now and how good the final master turned out, I would’ve been happy to pay twice the amount for his services because this custom package allowed me to keep the project file and mixing chains for future songs AND it sounds radio ready too. I definitely plan on using his services again.”

LevyIndependent artist

“Trying to find a legitimate industry quality mix as an independent artist can be difficult. With Matty, you don’t only get a next level mix; he teaches you about your own sound in a way that really helps develop yourself sonically as an artist. He’s really been able to bring my music to life. I’ll be working with Matty for a long time.”

Who you’re learning from

Nearly two decades of doing this, taught one song at a time.

I’m Matty Harris, a mixing and mastering engineer in Los Angeles. My credits include A$AP Rocky, Carly Rae Jepsen, Cuco and Sammy Adams, and I’m ranked in the top 1% of mastering engineers and top 2% of mixing engineers on Muso.ai.

But the work I’m proudest of is with independent artists who arrived with a good song and left with a great one. I built this package because the same three questions kept coming back after every delivery — what did you do to my vocal, why does it sound wider, how do I get closer to this myself next time. Answering them one email at a time was never going to be enough.

So now I answer them properly: on your record, in your session, on video you can rewatch whenever you forget. That’s the entire offer.

The room your song gets made in. Same chain, same monitoring as the major-label work — which is why the decisions in your video are the real ones.

The package

One song. One price. Everything above.

There’s no tiering on this one — the whole point is that nothing is held back.

I take a limited number of these each month because I record every breakdown myself. If the month is full I’ll tell you before you pay.

A personal mixing course built on your song
Custom presets built for your voice

The last three are the reason this exists. You can buy a mix anywhere and you can buy a course anywhere. Nobody hands you the finished session for your own song and talks you through it.

Common questions

Before you book.

How long does the whole process take?

Most projects are finished within 5–7 business days of receiving your files, including the video breakdown. Revisions come back within 48 hours. I keep you updated so you’re never wondering where it stands.

Is mastering included, or just the mix?

Both. Your song is mixed and then mastered through my analog chain in the same session — that’s why the breakdown video runs all the way to the master. You get the mastered WAV, Apple Digital Masters certified for streaming, ready to release.

What DAW and plugins do I need?

None in particular. Send me your plugin list and I’ll build the session entirely from what you already own, or let me use my full collection for the best possible result — your call. The session file comes in Pro Tools, Logic or Studio One, whichever you work in.

How is this different from just hiring you to mix my song?

A standard mix gets you the finished record. This gets you the finished record plus everything behind it: the unlocked session, presets built for your voice, unlimited revisions, and an hour of me explaining why every decision was made. If you only want the record, book the standard service — it’s the same mix quality for less money.

What do I need to send you?

Exported stems or track files from your DAW, organised and labelled. If you’re not sure how to prep them, I send a short guide when you book — it’s easier than it sounds, and I’ll check them before I start.

What genres do you work in?

Hip hop, R&B, pop, rock, EDM, Latin, country and singer-songwriter. The teaching holds up across all of them, because the fundamentals it covers — dynamics, space, frequency balance, vocal presence — don’t change with the genre.

What if I don’t like the mix?

We keep revising until you do. Unlimited means unlimited on this package — I don’t move on until it’s what you envisioned.

Can I use the session file and presets commercially?

Yes. The master is yours, the session is yours, the presets are yours. Use all of it however you like, on this song and every song after it, forever.

Is this worth it if I’m just starting out?

Honestly, it’s most valuable once you’re already finishing songs and are frustrated that you can’t get them to the next level. If you’ve never completed a track, your money is better spent finishing one first — then come back and we’ll take it apart properly.
